GuardSquare concludes major deals with prominent U.S. companies

Leuven (Belgium), Oct. 22, 2015 – GuardSquare, the world’s leading provider of security software for mobile applications, has concluded major deals with five prominent U.S. companies in the last month: a banking giant, a high-profile insurance company, one of the country’s most important retailers, a global hotel chain and an influential research institute. All companies are ranked among the top three in their industry and plan to secure a significant number of applications for their mobile customers.

The concluded deals allow GuardSquare to further broaden its customer base and to augment its market share in the strategic U.S. market. GuardSquare’s state-of-the-art software, DexGuard, is now being used by over one hundred key financial institutions both in the U.S. and across the globe. DexGuard is also imposing itself as the de facto industry standard for the protection of mobile applications in economic sectors as diverse as finance, telecom, gaming, social media, e-commerce, healthcare, and the public sector.

The heightened interest of American companies in DexGuard reflects both the rapid increase in the adoption of mobile technology and the growing awareness of the dangers associated with this mobile turn. In the recently published ‘2015 U.S. Mobile App Report’, comScore concludes that mobile application usage is exploding and accounts for 54% of the time spent on digital media. These numbers give a clear indication of the importance of applications have acquired as digital gateways to information and services. Yet, for all their advantages, mobile applications have a crucial weakness: they are vulnerable to all kinds of hacking attacks. Messages about applications that have been reverse engineered, tampered with or cloned abound in the media and managers are starting to realize that such attacks do not only threaten to disrupt the provided services or expose confidential information but ultimately to damage the provider’s reputation.

GuardSquare’s newest customers have placed their trust in DexGuard’s unique features to harden their mobile applications. DexGuard’s greatest strength is that it provides protection against dynamic analysis and attacks as well as protection against static analysis. First of all, DexGuard adds specific libraries to your application that check the integrity of the application and the device while it is running and secures the communication between the application and its server. Secondly, DexGuard applies multiple encryption and obfuscation techniques to the source code of the application. This second layer of protection is critical because it impedes any attempt to access, extract and/or modify (parts of) the application’s code and precludes the removal of any of the protections against dynamic analysis.

Bernard De Groeve, Vice-President of Global Sales and Marketing at GuardSquare, is convinced that the concluded deals foreshadow a larger growth in the U.S.: “As applications acquire a more central role in our lives, the need for a solid mobile security solution will certainly continue to increase. I am confident that DexGuard offers the functionalities required to ensure a secure mobile experience for everyone and that GuardSquare will greatly contribute to the future of mobile communication.”
