2002 Eric Lafortune releases ProGuard, our open source optimizer for Java and Android applications. ProGuard turns out to be highly successful: it has been downloaded millions of times since its release and has an active user community of over one million developers.
2012 Eric Lafortune introduces DexGuard to meet the increasing demand for mobile application protection. DexGuard quickly establishes itself as the product of choice for securing Android applications.
2014 Heidi Rakels and Eric Lafortune found GuardSquare to create a stable environment for the improvement of the existing software and the development of new products. The company starts to grow immediately.
2016 GuardSquare’s product line is extended with iXGuard, our cutting-edge software for the protection of iOS applications.
Heidi Rakels oversees the global operation and development of GuardSquare. Relying on her expertise in software engineering and project management, she makes sure the company continues to thrive. Heidi holds a Master of Science in computer science from the University of Leuven. She is also an Olympic medalist from the 1992 games in Barcelona.
Seasoned entrepreneur Jurgen Ingels sets GuardSquare’s financial course and is responsible for the global expansion of the company. Jurgen has ample experience in the technology world: he founded Clear2Pay (now FIS), co-founded NG DATA, SmartFin Capital and Eggsplore and is an active board member of various leading tech companies.
Eric Lafortune develops and implements GuardSquare’s long-term technological vision. Eric has made a name for himself in the mobile application space as the creator of ProGuard and DexGuard and as an insightful speaker at many conferences. He holds a PhD in computer science from the University of Leuven and worked as a postdoc at Cornell University.
Roel Caers is responsible for sales and marketing. He joined GuardSquare in 2016 with the aim of propelling the company to the next level. Roel has more than twenty years of experience in the IT industry, ten of which he spent in various sales and management positions. He attaches a lot of importance to strategic alignment.
