NAB Show is the world’s premier media, entertainment and technology event where content creation meets innovation. Held annually in Las Vegas, it brings together global professionals from broadcasting, streaming, film, sports, AI and production to explore cutting-edge tools, trends and workflows shaping the future of storytelling — from creation to distribution to monetization.
Streaming platforms have invested heavily in DRM, watermarking, and backend controls to protect premium content. Yet piracy and revenue abuse continue to scale, often without attackers ever touching the stream itself. Instead, they target the mobile app.
In this Tech Chat, we’ll examine how modern piracy increasingly originates from compromised mobile streaming apps, including repackaged binaries, modified playback logic, credential harvesting, and direct API abuse. Using real-world examples from streaming and pay-TV environments, we’ll show how attackers bypass traditional defenses by manipulating the client-side app—creating blind spots that DRM and server-side controls alone can’t address.
Attendees will learn how leading media providers are closing this gap by protecting app integrity, detecting runtime abuse, and validating trust before content is delivered, stopping piracy earlier in the attack chain without degrading viewer experience.
